Visually stimulating. I'm not really a big fan of Japanese culture but seeing its richness, vibrance and beauty in this film makes me want to wear a kimono and wear high wooden shoes to work. I have not read the book so I cannot really judge whether the book is better than the movie, which is almost always the case, but my friends who have actually read the book say that the book is better.

Considering I'm not a big follower of Asian culture (actors included), it is a pleasant surprise that I enjoyed this movie. I especially liked the romantic twist, however I wish they had built up this part some more. The film started at just the right pace (slow enough for me to pick up because I had a harder time remembering the Japanese names) but the movie picked up the pace towards the end, to the point that I felt everything was happening so suddenly.

Ken Watanabe's really cute! (for his age)

I give Memoirs of a Geisha four stars.
